FAQ

Handles & Knobs

What is a centre-to-centre (CC) measurement?

The centre-to-centre (CC) measurement is the distance from the centre of one screw hole to the centre of the other, measured in millimetres. Knobs have only one screw hole and therefore no CC measurement. If your doors or drawer fronts are already drilled, measure the distance between the hole centres to find handles that fit.

Common measurements based on the 32 mm system include 64, 96 and 128 mm. Older furniture may also use less common measurements such as 78 or 87 mm.

Tip: If measuring from centre to centre is difficult, measure from the inside edge of one hole to the outside edge of the other—the result is the same.

Are screws included when ordering handles and knobs?

Absolutely! Screws with M4 threads should always be included when ordering handles and knobs that require screws for installation! If the order includes a furniture fitting that also needs another type of screw for mounting, those should also be included in the delivery! There should also be a field under all handles and knobs where you can specify the thickness of your doors or drawers, allowing us to adjust the screw length so that the screws fit perfectly when they arrive at your home!

Tip! If you plan to mount a knob on the wall instead of on a dresser or in the kitchen, please let us know when placing your order, and we will send a screw post instead of an M4 screw! The screw post allows you to mount any knob with M4 threads directly into the wall, turning the knob into a hook!

Do you have leather handles or leather-wrapped handles in other cc measurements, such as c/c 87 or c/c 192?

We do not stock these currently, but we are very flexible with our leather handles, and almost any handle in the store can be customized with your choice of leather! If you want leather-wrapped handles in cc 87 or cc 192, that’s no problem, and if you have ideas about wrapping another handle, we can do that too! We currently offer four different leather colors: black, brown, cognac, and natural, and they can be applied to any handle! We are more than happy to accept special orders and personal ideas to create unique leather handles for our customers! Please contact us with your thoughts and ideas, and we’ll work out a solution!

What metal is used in the handles and knobs?

Most handles that are described as being made of metal are made from a zinc alloy, often known as Zamak. This is the most common metal choice for kitchen handles and knobs. If the handle or knob is made of another material, it is usually specified in the product description. For example, we have many kitchen handles in brass, knobs in porcelain, and fittings in aluminum and wood. Note also that there is a difference between fittings that are stainless and those with a stainless steel look, as well as brass and brass-colored.

If you are very sensitive to nickel, you should avoid kitchen fittings made from the common zinc alloy. Almost all of our fittings have a surface coating, which means you rarely touch the metal directly, but if you are still unsure, we suggest our nickel-free range of handles and knobs!

How should I care for leather handles?

Leather is a natural material, and no leather handle is exactly like another. Our leather loop, leather-wrapped handles, handles with cross-stitching, and handles with leather pieces are all made from Eco-certified, Swedish leather from Tärnsjö Garveri. Leather from Tärnsjö Garveri is of very high quality and works very well as handles on dressers, kitchens, and wardrobes. However, leather is also a material that ages naturally and is affected by light, moisture, and wear. The leather itself is saturated and has very little absorption capacity for moisture, but it can darken with repeated contact with water. Our suppliers of leather handles do not recommend any specific handling method for the handles, but if you want to polish them after some time, regular leather care products for furniture should work excellently! We believe that a significant part of the charm of leather handles is the natural patina!

How should I care for metal handles?

We have handles and knobs in many different metals, and most of the fittings are lacquered over the finish to protect the fitting and prevent aging. This means you will never need to polish the handles or maintain them in any other way. On the contrary, to protect the surface lacquer on the fittings, we recommend cleaning our metal handles and metal knobs only with water and dish soap.

Most of our brass handles also have a clear lacquer to prevent the brass from aging naturally, so you won't have to polish the fitting. Here too, we recommend only water and dish soap for cleaning and never any brass polish, such as Häxans, as this can remove the lacquer and cause the handles to become stained. However, we also have unlacquered brass handles for those who appreciate the natural patina of brass, and for these handles, polishing agents can be used to polish the brass over time!

How should I care for wooden handles?

Our handles and knobs in oak, beech, cherry, pine, walnut, and other types of wood are mostly lacquered at the workshop. After the wooden knob or handle is shaped, a thin clear lacquer is applied to the fitting to protect against moisture and other external influences. This means you will never need to oil the wood or maintain it in any other way. However, it is important to keep in mind that wood is a natural material with a natural aging process that changes and/or darkens over time. Additionally, different types of wood and different parts of the tree can result in different conditions and rates of change. Therefore, we recommend our customers clean our wooden handles only with water and dish soap to protect the surface lacquer and ensure a long lifespan for their wooden fittings.

Will your kitchen handles fit my IKEA kitchen?

Absolutely! Handles for kitchens, wardrobes, dressers, etc., follow a standard when it comes to cc measurements (the distance between screw holes), which should be the same across all kitchen suppliers on the market. However, IKEA does not always specify the same measurements for their handles as, for example, Marbodal or Ballingslöv. Some categorize their handles based on the total length of the fitting instead of the cc measurement, but if you check the cc measurement under the product, you will often see that they still fall within the standard.

So absolutely, if you have a kitchen from HTH, Kvänum, IKEA, Marbodal, Ballingslöv, Nordanro, Epoq, Kvick, Vedum, or any other kitchen supplier on the market, you can buy handles and knobs from us!

How do I install the handles in my new kitchen?

Many people believe that a carpenter is needed to install handles on their kitchen cabinets, but it is not difficult at all! To install handles on a drawer or a door, you only need a few tools that most DIY enthusiasts have at home, namely a screwdriver and possibly a drill. If there are already handles on your cabinet doors, you can easily unscrew them with a Phillips screwdriver and then screw on your new handles with the screws that we include in the delivery of your new fittings!

If your kitchen is completely new and the doors are unbored, you will need to make holes in the doors first. Use our handy and simple template for handles to mark the holes on drawer fronts and doors. Then drill the holes at the markings with a 4mm drill and screw the handle using a screwdriver and the included M4 screws.

Use our handle mounting template for accurate drilling.

Which centre-to-centre (CC) measurement do you recommend?

When it comes to choosing the center-to-center measurement, it is really only a matter of preference. However, if you want a recommendation, the 96mm and 128mm measurements are very good as there are many handles available in those sizes. By choosing a more common measurement, you will have many handle options to choose from if you want to change them in the future!

Custom-made drawer inserts

How do I order custom-made drawer inserts?

How to order custom-made drawer inserts:

  1. Measure the internal width and depth of your drawer as accurately as possible. Measure the width from side to side and the depth from front to back.
  2. Open the product page and find the width range that includes your measurements.
  3. Select that width range and enter the exact drawer measurements in the field before adding the product to your basket.

Browse our custom-made drawer inserts.

Need help measuring or choosing a range? Email kontakt@itsdesign.se or call +46 13 10 10 05.

What does the width range mean?

The width range shows the measurements within which we can adjust the product. For the Visio cutlery tray, a range of 375–430 mm means that it can be cut to any width within that range.

The product is 430 mm wide when we receive it. We can trim the outer edges down to 375 mm without affecting the compartments. If the internal width of your drawer is 398 mm, select the 375–430 mm range and enter 398 mm as the exact width.

Depth is entered separately. Visio can be adjusted to a depth of 440–523 mm regardless of the width range selected.

Can I choose the compartment layout?

The compartment layout of a finished model cannot be changed. We buy the inserts in set designs and adjust their size by trimming the outer edges. This does not change the number or position of the compartments.

Would you prefer a more flexible solution? Send us the drawer measurements and your wishes, and we will be happy to help you find the best possible option.

Can I return a custom-made product?

Our 30-day return policy applies to standard products for all customers, regardless of country, but custom-made products are made to the measurements you provide and are therefore excluded from the right of withdrawal and our open-return policy.

For standard-product returns within Sweden, return shipping costs SEK 59. Customers in other countries pay the return shipping themselves. We can help arrange the return shipment.

Please check your measurements carefully and contact us before ordering if you are unsure.

Can I send a sketch of my preferred drawer layout?

You are welcome to send a sketch, but we cannot change the compartment layout of a finished model. We buy the cutlery trays in set sizes and colours and customise them by trimming the outer edges.

For a more flexible solution, we recommend our modular Base series, whose parts can be combined to suit your needs. Send us the drawer measurements together with a description or sketch, and we will help you create a suitable layout.
